I used to use Neutrogena's Oil-Free Acne Wash Cream Cleanser in the past, and it worked for me to some degree.
But I found out I sensitive to the ingredients, so on me it didn't work as well as it could. On the other hand, it made a huge difference on my husband's acne.

It really just depends on your skin. I'd reluctant to say what is the best for you. Each person is different.

I'd hate to say this, but proactive probably works as well as it seems, only because it has good marketing.
People are more willing to stick to the regiment than for a drug store system. I only see people raving about how good it is. The people it didn't work for, they don't say much because it's just another flopped product to them.

It's going to be trial and error. Just keep in mind, that you probably need to use a product for a month of two, if acne is bad enough, to see results.

Just whatever you do, don't continue using a product if it irritates your skin. It's telling 'Hey, I don't like this!' and can retaliate with more acne.

If you decide to use any facial masks or anything, be aware that it can bring up impurities in the skin to the surface and cause a couple of flare ups before it gets better.

When i don't put on acne cream regularly, i get permazits and an occasional monster lurker from hell. I've been dealing with this for about 6 ish years, and this is what i've found; proactive and any prescription face cream have worked, birth control also cut down on the amount of zits i got. I can guarantee that if you go to a clinic and get them to prescribe you a decent cream that you're going to get the results that you are looking for, I've never been disappointed with anything I've had prescribed. Off the shelf products work occasionally, and not well or for very long. Usually not very expensive, even without coverage. It's worth the trip to a clinic.
Anyways, the main medicinal ingredient in proactive is benzoic acid, which can be found in alot of over the counters. I'm not sure why proactive worked well for me when the others didn't.

And always remember that unless you got it from a doctor, whoever made it can make any claim they want about it, as long as it doesn't kill you. If i wanted too, i could make a cocktail of bacon grease and window cleaner and market it as foundation. They don't have to deliver on any promise they make; this market it is buyer beware.
