How can I get my hair to stay dark after I dye it?

My original hair colour is a dirty blonde. And I have dyed my hair dark brown (almost black) tons of times. But it seems within a week my colour fads into a redish brown and then a blonde colour. It never stays dark. And yes I have tried Colour washes but they only seem to make my hair redder faster. Help?

use colour enhancing shampoos and conditioners. most hair care and cosmetics companies offer special shampoos, conditioners and styling products for colour treated hair. some manufacturers even sell products formulated specifically for bottle blondes.

stay out of the sun. too much sunshine can oxidize coloring and leave hair frazzled and dry. to make colouring last, condition hair or use a moisturizing balm before going out in the sun for long periods. excess wind makes hair brittle as well, so keep hair covered when outside during inclement weather.

cut your hair. trim your locks regularly to eliminate dry, unkempt ends and keep your hair colour looking fresh.

stick to warm water in the shower. hot water dulls hair colour and can send you back to the salon sooner.

customize your colour enhancer. ask your colourist to prepare a conditioner for your exact colour and tone. it's slightly more expensive than store conditioners, but protects coloring longer.

take advantage of a leave-in conditioner. apply between shampoos to make color last. these conditioners soak into the hair to revitalize coloring and stay in longer than a few minutes like regular conditioning treatments.

wash hair thoroughly to get rid of styling product residue. do this on a regular basis and make sure to do it the day before going to the salon or touching up hair colour.

hope i heelped?! (:

I know this may seem a lil big icky to some people but you don't have to wash your hair every time you take a shower. Just like every other time you take a shower. That would help keep it the color longer because you won't be washing it as often. Besides, washing your hair all the time isn't really good either. 03 Jul 2009 / Reply answer / +1
