Hair cut advice!

I'm getting my hair cut this week and am having trouble deciding what I want done. I want to keep it longer, and I know I want layers. Should I go for the layers like in a scene haircut? Or should I stick to traditional layers? I'm also keeping my side swept bangs. I do like the style that when in a ponytail, the hair on top looks full (and slightly falling out of the hair tie). I need pics to bring with me.

Also, I'm thinking of getting honey or butterscotch highlights. What do you think?
