Cowlicks - Fringe Impossible!

I've had some major cowlicks at the front of my hair since I was a baby, and have been told by several hairstylists that there's no way (short of plastic surgery) of me getting a fringe. I've always just had curtains and a centre parting, but I'm fed up of looking like a washed-out 80s popstar! I want something punky done to my hair that won't involve a fringe. Any suggestions?
