How do I go vegetarian?
I've been trying to become a vegetarian but I have no idea what kind of diet I should have so that I stay healthy and get all the nutrients I need. Any suggestions on what I'm giving up and how to get it from non-meat sources?

Just whatever you do, don't become a junk vegetarian, where you subsist on prepackage junk foods. I know girls like this at college, and not only are they over weight, but they are unhealthy.
The important thing is to make sure you eat a bunch of different types of foods each day, and probably learn how to cook.
The Japanese for instance, have a varied diet. They counted all the different types of food people ate in a study. On average, the older women would eat up to 72 different foods a week. That's about 10 different foods a day, without consuming the same thing with in the following week.
Most stores will have deli items you can get, but here in the mid west, you'll find that the choices are rather limited. It's all the same thing, just presented or cooked differently. Seems like people here are scared to try any new fruits or vegetables that become available in the produce section.
If you want to learn some good vegetarian dishes, looking to ethnic foods for inspiration is a good idea.
On of my favorite vegetarian dishes is Hummus. 17 Dec 2008 / Reply answer / +1

Being vegetarian is more than not eating meats. Its important that you have a balanced diet with a lot of fruits, veggies, legumes (beans, lentils, peas) for protein, and un-meat. You also should take vegetarian supplements.
Its very important to know what you're getting into so I would suggest researching a bit, to at least know your stuff before you start. There are countless websites and books. Being vegetarian is great (I'm a vegan myself), and probably the healthiest thing you can do for yourself (if you do it right!!)
